Lesson 1

What does that mean?

In this lesson, students are introduced to the practice of decomposition. They apply a process to decompose figurative phrases including similes, metaphors, and idioms to understand their meanings. They then select an idiom from a provided set and decompose it to find its meaning on their own. Students then illustrate their idiom as if it were literally true, then share how they used decomposition to find its meaning with their peers.
