Lesson 3
Populating producers
In this lesson, students explore the cloning feature in Scratch to distinguish between duplicated sprites and cloned sprites. Students are then introduced to count-controlled loops as a method to repeat a command. Finally, students use count-controlled loops to populate their simulation with a set number of organisms.

Standards
CSTA Standards
- 2-AP-13: Decompose problems and subproblems into parts to facilitate the design, implementation, and review of programs
- 2-AP-19: Document programs in order to make them easier to follow, test, and debug.
- 3-DA-12: Create computational models that represent the relationships among different elements of data collected from a phenomenon or process.
NGSS Standards
- MS-ETS1-1: Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem with sufficient precision to ensure a successful solution, taking into account relevant scientific principles and potential impacts on people and the natural environment that may limit possible solutions.
