Lesson 2
Worldbuilding
In this lesson, students will transition from their student activity sheets to Scratch to create their character’s world. They will begin the lesson by reviewing the paint tools in the Costumes tab before creating their character and determining their survival items. Next, they will discuss the importance of the setting in a story and select three different backdrops that will change throughout the story. To conclude the lesson, students will discuss the importance of program initialization to ensure their program starts the same every time it’s run. They will set the initial location and size of their sprites and determine which backdrop will appear when the green flag is clicked.
Learning objective
Students will use commands to set their starting scene.
